Several real-time scenarios will be presented including a night exercise. There are often a number of ways to accomplish the same task and students will be encouraged to apply what they know to rescue solutions. Less time will be spent on specific techniques and more time on concepts in rescue. Please refer to the Specialist Course policy below. On the first day of the Specialist Course, students must successfully pass an evaluation of Technician Level skills. You must submit documentation of course completion. This course is designed for Technician Level graduates who have a solid background in technical rope rescue and have a desire to build on their skills.Ĭompletion of a 40-hour minimum Technician level rope rescue course. Successful completion of the Technician Level course will allow graduates, assuming continuing practice, to function effectively as a rope rescue team member. Successful completion of a skills test will be required to obtain a NFPA 1006 certificate. The course culminates with a mock rescue scenario where each student will function as a rescue team member in a real time exercise. Beginning in the Fall of 2015, we began introducing our Technician level students to the use of two-tensioned rope rescue systems for rescue loads. The curriculum meets NFPA 1006 guidelines for Rope Technicians. However, even skilled rescuers will be challenged. The Technician Level Course is an entry level program and no prior experience is required. We will ask you to pay if you are selected for the course. Please note that scholarships are not being offered for this course program. Payment is not required at time of registration/application.
The advanced rigging techniques and equipment addressed will include: Students must successfully perform an on-rope personal skills competency evaluation to include anchor building, rappelling, ascending and a pick-off rescue. Rope Technician certification and one year experience as a Rescue Technician. Completion of the Team Skills c ourse will increase the graduate's effectiveness on their rescue team and give them needed skills to begin to take a leadership role. Time will be spent on specific team rescue techniques and on concepts in rescue. The focus will be on advanced rigging systems and overseeing and directing rigging operations. This intensive two-day course is designed for Rope Rescue Technicians that are proficient with their personal skills.
